New Foot-and-Mouth Disease Outbreaks: Farm with 1,700 Sheep and Goats Infected in Dali, 70 Cows in Geri

Two new outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease have been detected in a sheep and goat farm in Dali (1,700 animals) and a cattle farm in Geri (70 cows), bringing the total number of cases to 41. All animals from 16 infected units have been culled. Over 76% of cattle and over 42% of sheep and goats have been vaccinated nationwide, with a vaccine for pigs expected to arrive in March/April. The new cases in Dali and Geri are due to previous movements of infected animals. Veterinary Services warn of potential impacts on halloumi cheese if the situation does not improve.
