The Cyprus Police announced the strengthening of the “Neighborhood Police” institution with 17 new members. This represents a 50% increase in the number of officers serving in this role, reaching a total of 51. The institution, implemented since 2003, is part of a broader Community Policing strategy and also includes Bicycle Policing, Animal Police, and the Neighborhood Watch. The aim of the “Neighborhood Police” is to prevent crime through fostering two-way communication with citizens and developing relationships of trust and cooperation between the Police and the community. The Police consider the institution particularly successful and its strengthening is part of its modernization. The addition of new members is considered the first step to further strengthen the institution, with the aim of maintaining safety in society and addressing local problems. The Police are seeking to create a closer bond with citizens and better respond to their needs.
