National Security Council to Convene - Government Denies Threat to Cyprus

The Republic of Cyprus is on constant alert due to developments in the wider region, and President Nikos Christodoulides will convene a meeting of the National Security Council today at 17:00 to assess the situation and coordinate the relevant services. Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis confirmed the ongoing monitoring of developments. Mr. Letymbiotis denied reports of missiles being launched towards Cyprus, emphasizing that there is no indication of a threat to the country. The authorities are constantly assessing security data, without any cause for concern at this time. The denial followed statements by British Defense Secretary John Healey regarding the launch of two missiles from Iran towards Cyprus, where British military bases are located. Mr. Healey clarified that London is “quite certain” that the missiles did not target the bases, but emphasized the “indiscriminate” nature of Iranian retaliation. He also reiterated calls for an end to missile attacks and de-escalation of tensions.
