NASA: 2027 for Long-Awaited Return to the Moon - New Tests

The US space agency has added a new mission to the Artemis program, which aims to return to the Moon, including a test docking of a spacecraft in orbit around the Earth before the astronauts land. The new mission, scheduled for 2027, is part of a program review amid competition with China, which aims to land on the Moon in 2030. NASA has also canceled the upgrade of the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket to focus on production and cost. This decision affects the contract with Boeing for the construction of a more powerful stage of the rocket. At the same time, SpaceX and Blue Origin are developing lunar landers for the program, competing for the first landing. The new mission allows for more tests before the landing, which is now planned for 2028 with the Artemis IV mission. NASA has already carried out an unmanned test of the SLS and Orion in 2022, and plans to launch the Artemis II mission in April, with four astronauts around the Moon. The revised Artemis III mission will include a docking test with the lunar landers in low Earth orbit.
