Don't Save the Tree and Lose the Forest, Grigoriadou Says Regarding Foot-and-Mouth Disease

Sotiria Grigoriadou, Senior Officer of the Veterinary Services, emphasized the need for full implementation of measures to combat foot-and-mouth disease, warning that failure to do so will delay the restoration of normalcy in livestock farming. Ms. Grigoriadou reported problems with cooperation from some livestock farmers, who are resisting the culling of animals, resulting in complaints to the Police. So far, 14,000 sheep and goats and 1,100 cattle have been culled, with another 10,000 animals awaiting culling. Checks continue in all provinces, while vaccinations are also progressing, covering 73% of cattle and 35% of sheep farms.
