Munich Security Conference to Focus on Transatlantic Relations, Ukraine, and Iran

The Munich Security Conference, starting tomorrow, is expected to focus on transatlantic relations, the crisis in Ukraine, and the situation in Iran. The President of the Conference, Wolfgang Isinger, described this year's event as a "superlative conference" given the large number of fundamental questions being raised. The absence of Donald Trump and the American delegation led by Marco Rubio are not expected to bring significant changes to transatlantic policy. Important figures from Europe and around the world are expected to participate in the Conference, including Emmanuel Macron, Keir Starmer, Wang Yi, and Ursula von der Leyen. Volodymyr Zelensky will be honored with the "Ewald von Kleist" award for the courage and determination of the Ukrainian people. There are concerns that the Conference could coincide with a potential US attack on Iran, as happened last year with the announcement by US Vice President J.D. Vance. The organizers emphasize the importance of unity and addressing the numerous challenges facing the international community. Mr. Isinger stated that the Conference will honor the brave Ukrainian people, recognizing their sacrifice in defending freedom. The presence of the Governor of California, Gavin Newsom, is also of interest, given that he is considered a likely candidate for the US presidency in 2028. The American delegation also includes Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, close associates of Trump.
