Mitsotakis-Erdogan Meeting Scheduled After February 10th

A meeting between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is expected to take place after February 10th. According to information, no major breakthroughs are expected in resolving existing issues, but both sides want to demonstrate continued dialogue and avoid escalating tensions in the region. Turkey considers the image of communication with Greece important, especially in an unstable environment. At the same time, there is concern in Turkey about the possibility of a new exclusion from European competitions through the “MADE IN EUROPE” regulation, which limits the participation of third countries in EU public contracts. Such an exclusion could cause serious economic problems for Turkish companies, as it would be the second after the SAFE program. The Turkish President is reportedly sent a letter to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in order to prevent the exclusion. Turkey does not consider the NAVTEX as a change of data in its positions. It is noted that the Turkish Foreign Minister is expected to visit Ankara, while the Turkish press reports that the Greek Foreign Minister has expressed concerns about challenges, threats and deliberate escalation from the Turkish side.
