Mitsotakis and Erdogan Agree on Need to De-escalate Tensions

Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara, where they expressed their shared belief in the need to refrain from threats and resolve disputes through dialogue and international law. The two leaders discussed Greek-Turkish issues for about an hour and a half, followed by a High-Level Cooperation Council. During the meeting, six agreements and a joint declaration were signed, covering areas such as culture, foreign policy, investment, research and technology, earthquake preparedness, and the Thessaloniki-Smyrna ferry connection. Both leaders emphasized the importance of maintaining calm and good faith in disagreements, as well as the prospect of progress in resolving issues in the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean.
