Ministry of Culture Mourns the Loss of Costa Katsonis

The Deputy Ministry of Culture expressed its sorrow over the death of author, philologist, and scholar Costa Katsonis, recognizing him as a shining example of a man of letters and education. Katsonis was distinguished for his contribution to education and literature, and was nominated for the 2026 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA). He served as an official in the Cypriot education system for 38 years and held a doctorate in children's and young adult literature. Katsonis's work includes poetry, prose, historical studies, essays, and articles, and he was a founder and president of the Cypriot Association of Children's and Young People's Books (CSPNB), where he was later honored as Honorary President. His contribution to the field of children's books was timeless and substantial. Special mention was made of his long-term responsibility for the publication of the CSPNB's magazine "Anem", which became a significant reference point for Cypriot literature and children's literature. He also participated in the editorial team of the art magazine "The Circle". The Deputy Ministry of Culture emphasized that Katsonis's memory will remain alive in the hearts of those who knew him and all who appreciate letters and culture, while his death leaves an irreparable void.
