Minimum Wage: Discussion Now, Decisions in 2028 – Unions Demand Action

Yesterday's meeting of the Labour Advisory Body (LAB) was useful and productive, as certain issues were clarified and procedures were put in motion. The most important topic was the minimum wage, with the government favouring the phased implementation of pension reform. Discussion on the hourly rate of the minimum wage will begin immediately, but any changes will be implemented in 2028. The unions insisted on the need for a meeting with the President of the Republic, believing that the final amount of the minimum wage could be higher based on the recommendation of the relevant Committee. On the other hand, employers do not agree to any changes before 2028, considering that the unions' attempt to influence the President is inappropriate. Regarding the adequacy of minimum wages, the discussion will continue in the relevant Committee, with the aim of submitting a bill to Parliament. The government is seeking to find a solution that satisfies all parties, taking into account the economic conditions and the needs of workers.
