Middle East Crisis: Minimal Impact on Cyprus Air Quality, Official Says

The Head of the Air Quality Department of the Labour Inspection Department, Chrysanthos Savvidis, stated that the probability of Cyprus's atmosphere being affected by chemical pollutants due to hostilities in the Middle East is extremely low. Based on scientific data and previous analyses, no hazardous concentrations of chemical substances have been detected in Cyprus's atmosphere. The Labour Inspection Department regularly collects dust samples and sends them for analysis to a university in Athens, examining around 40 chemical substances. These substances have a short lifespan in the atmosphere and cannot travel long distances. The Department also monitors dust episodes in cooperation with the Meteorological Department.
