The opening ceremony of the Cypriot presidency of the Council of the EU, which will take place on the Central Stage of THOK in January 2026, under the artistic direction of Kostas Silvestros, aims to be a complete artistic proposal that will highlight Cypriot identity and culture. The title of the event, “Memory - Present - After”, symbolizes the need to connect the past, present and future of Cyprus. Silvestros emphasizes that the ceremony is not just a formal event, but an opportunity for self-knowledge and the projection of Cyprus in Europe. The working team consists of more than 100 cultural workers, and the production is ambitious, aiming to leave a strong mark on the Cypriot presidency. The event will unfold in three episodes, corresponding to the three concepts of the title. It will attempt to capture the historical experience of Cyprus, its current reality and the vision for the future, through the language of art. The ceremony will be an opening for dialogue with Europe and will highlight the cultural wealth of Cyprus. Regarding the Cyprus issue, the event will refer to the open wound of division, but will also emphasize the need for peace and reconciliation. The ceremony will be a moment of unification and a counterbalance to division, aiming to promote a positive image of Cyprus and strengthen its European identity.
