Meeting in Voroklini on Foot-and-Mouth Disease: Affected Livestock Farmers Demand Fair Compensation

Livestock farmers affected by foot-and-mouth disease held a meeting in Voroklini, where they presented specific requests to the state. A key demand is the payment of fair and adequate compensation, taking into account current market prices. The livestock farmers also requested coverage of lost income during the period of inability to work, a complete freeze on loan obligations until reactivation, as well as state support for the import of animals from abroad with a subsidy of the freight. In addition, they requested the utilization of European programs through KOAP, coverage of social insurance for livestock farmers and their employees, and the provision of protective suits and pharmaceuticals. The Municipality of Larnaca has already secured the offer of the Bank of Cyprus in this area. The Municipality of Larnaca expresses its full support for the livestock farmers and calls on the competent Ministries and Services to take immediate measures to ensure the sustainability of the primary sector and the local economy. It will continue to monitor developments and be in contact with all stakeholders.
