Meeting Between President of Cyprus and Erhurman Underway: "Everything Has Been Answered"

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, met today with the Turkish Cypriot leader, Tufan Erhurman, in the presence of the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy, Teresa Olguin. Before the meeting, President Christodoulides stated that the issues raised by the Turkish Cypriot side have already been answered, expressing a desire to resume negotiations from the point where they were interrupted, safeguarding past achievements. He emphasized that if the proposals are not accepted, restarting from scratch would make it difficult to establish a timeline. Ms. Olguin had previously held separate meetings with the two leaders and stated that there had been insufficient progress, particularly on Confidence-Building Measures (CBMs), which are essential for convening a comprehensive meeting. The government expresses hope that today's meeting will demonstrate a genuine political will to resume negotiations.
