Mayor of Lefkara Threatens to Take Matters into His Own Hands Regarding Turkish Cypriot Properties

The Mayor of Lefkara, Sofoklis Sofokleous, expressed strong concern about the state of Turkish Cypriot properties in the area, threatening to take action even outside the legal framework if the problem is not resolved. He highlighted the lack of state action to protect the properties, many of which are listed buildings and are collapsing. He denounced cases of residents being blackmailed to relinquish the properties, while also mentioning the possibility of their use for illegal activities. Elena Karekla, representative of the Turkish Cypriot Property Custodian, stated that procedures for resolving the issue have begun and the publication of available properties is expected in April.
