Published January 4, 2026, 16:16

The HCAA (Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority) announced massive interference on almost all frequencies of the Athens FIR, which began at 08:59 local time on Sunday. The interference caused a drop in the HELLAS COM communication lines and operational telephone lines. The HCAA describes the incident as unprecedented due to its extent and duration. The Crisis Management Team has been convened and is in constant coordination with EUROCONTROL and the EEΤT to restore the problem and ensure flight safety. Temporarily, the number of aircraft served in the Athens FIR has been reduced.
