Maryam Rajavi: A Potential 'Ready-Made Solution' for Iran?

Maryam Rajavi, leader of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), is emerging as a potential 'solution' for Iran in the event of regime change. Rajavi joined the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK) movement after the 1979 Iranian Revolution and went into exile when the Khomeini regime began suppressing opposition. The NCRI, with the MEK as its core, is a well-organized political entity with a clear plan for a transition of power. Funding for the NCRI primarily comes from the Iranian diaspora, while Western support is more political than financial. Compared to the descendants of the last Shah, Rajavi possesses an organizational structure and a detailed political program, making her a more prepared option for leading Iran. However, the MEK lacks broad popular support within Iran, posing a risk to the success of any transition.
