Marinakis: The World Needs a Strategic Shipping Alliance

The president of Capital Maritime & Trading Corp, Evangelos Marinakis, called for immediate international action in the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that restoring the free flow of energy from the Gulf is a matter of global security and economic stability. In an article in the Daily Telegraph, he states that the Strait is effectively closed, disrupting the transport of one-fifth of the world's crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG), and one-third of fertilizer supplies. Mr. Marinakis proposes the creation of a strategic alliance between shipping companies, Gulf states, and the United States, with the aim of restoring the energy flow. The alliance would be based on coordinating shipowners, mobilizing Gulf states to utilize their export infrastructure, and the active contribution of the United States through naval presence and diplomatic support. Mr. Marinakis calls on all stakeholders to take immediate action, emphasizing that the situation is critical and requires coordinated action to address rising energy prices and inflation. He also highlights the danger to the lives of sailors who are at daily risk from attacks on ships.
