March Designated as Civil Protection Awareness Month by Ministry of Interior

The Ministry of Interior has announced that March will be established as Civil Protection and Civil Defence Awareness Month for 2026. The purpose of this initiative is to inform citizens about the work and importance of the Civil Defence system, as well as self-protection measures in emergencies. March 1st has been designated as World Civil Defence Day since 1990, on the initiative of the International Civil Defence Organisation (ICDO). Civil defence includes a set of measures and actions taken before, during or after a disaster, aiming to prevent or mitigate its consequences. Alongside World Civil Defence Day, the pioneers of the system and those who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty are honoured. World Civil Defence Day is particularly significant due to the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, which underscore the importance of the civil defence system at both local and global levels. The Ministry pays tribute to volunteers and workers in the civil defence system. On March 5th, the planned actions of Civil Defence will be presented at the Press and Information Office, as part of the Civil Protection Month 2026. The Ministry of Interior's announcement highlights the importance of preparing and informing citizens to deal with potential risks.
