Mandatory Supervision for Electrical and Mechanical Installations in New Buildings

The Parliament will vote on regulations strengthening the control of electrical and mechanical installations in new and existing buildings, aiming to enhance safety and align with European standards. These regulations make supervision of the works by qualified professionals (architects, civil engineers, electricians, and mechanical engineers) mandatory. The Scientific and Technical Chamber of Cyprus (ETEK) played a significant role in shaping the regulations, noting that they address a 20-year legislative gap. Despite concerns about potential cost increases, ETEK estimates that proper study and supervision can reduce it, while disciplinary sanctions, including the removal of professional licenses, are foreseen for cases of inadequate supervision.
