Man Arrested for Allegedly Defrauding Couple of €32,000 Over Land Sale

The Limassol Police have arrested a 66-year-old man on suspicion of defrauding a couple of €32,000 through false pretenses. The victims had agreed with the 66-year-old in 2020 to purchase a plot of agricultural land, paying the agreed amount, but the man failed to transfer ownership as he was a tenant, not the owner, of the land. The suspect was arrested following a court warrant and is being held in custody for five days. During questioning, he denied involvement in the case, claiming that the SUV found at the scene of the crime had been registered to his company without his knowledge, as his company imports cars on behalf of others. The investigation is ongoing, with police examining the relationship between the 66-year-old and a 28-year-old, who is also in custody. Additionally, the manner in which the vehicle was cleared through customs and the 66-year-old's connection to the owners of the luxury cars in the showroom will be investigated. A search of the 66-year-old's home revealed and confiscated €18,000 in cash, two imitation pistols, and five mobile phones.
