“Make America Go Away”: Danes’ Satirical Response to Trump

A clothing store in Copenhagen has launched a red baseball cap as a response to Donald Trump's interest in 'buying' Greenland, featuring the slogan “Make America Go Away,” a satirical twist on his famous “MAGA” (Make America Great Again). This move is an expression of solidarity with Greenland and a reaction to the US president's controversial statements. The store owner, Michael, stated that the caps, which initially didn't have much demand, suddenly became popular after Trump's announcement. Co-owner Jesper Rampe Tonesen also invented a play on words using the name of the Greenlandic capital, Nuuk, which in Danish sounds like “Nu det nok,” meaning “Enough is enough.” Tens of thousands of people demonstrated in Copenhagen and Nuuk over the weekend, chanting that “Greenland is not for sale.” Many of the protesters wore the caps, expressing their opposition to a potential US acquisition of the island. Trump has justified his interest in Greenland based on strategic reasons and the presence of minerals, even leaving open the possibility of using force to take control of the island. These threats have strained relations between NATO allies and led to a diplomatic crisis.
