Major Power Outage in Berlin: Extremist Group Claims Responsibility for Bridge Arson

A widespread power outage has been affecting Berlin since Saturday, leaving approximately 50,000 households and 2,000 businesses without electricity, hot water, and internet access. The disruption is a result of arson on a power bridge, which has been claimed by the extremist group Vulkangruppe. The damage to the power grid has caused significant disruption to daily life, impacting critical infrastructure such as hospitals and nursing homes. Authorities have directly linked the arson to Vulkangruppe, which has been involved in previous attacks, including one on a Tesla factory. Deputy government spokesperson Sebastian Heile condemned the act, describing it as a serious crime and pledging that those responsible will be brought to justice. Power restoration efforts are underway, but it is estimated that it will take several days to fully return to normal. Specifically, full restoration is expected by Thursday, mainly in the southwestern Berlin area. The power outage is particularly severe due to the low temperatures prevailing in the region, making living conditions especially difficult for residents, particularly vulnerable groups such as the elderly and the sick. Authorities have mobilized to address emergencies and support those affected.
