Macron: Parties with Ties to Violent Groups to Clarify Their Positions

French President Emmanuel Macron stated during today's cabinet meeting that political forces “maintaining links with groups of violence” should “clarify their positions,” said French government spokeswoman Mont Brezon. The French government condemns all acts of violence, “whether from the far left or the far right, without prioritizing them,” the spokeswoman noted. Simultaneously, the French Interior Ministry has asked the country's police authorities to investigate whether and to what extent the political organization “New Guard,” which was outlawed in 2025, still exists and is active. Members of this organization are being questioned and are suspected by the police of involvement in the clashes between far-left and far-right groups that took place a few days ago in Lyon, resulting in the fatal injury of far-right nationalist Quentin Derac.
