LNG in Vasilikos: Tender for Contractors and Concerns over Gas Arrival Timeline

DEFA has decided to proceed with a tender for the selection of contractors for the LNG terminal project in Vasilikos and to request approval of funds for hazard studies. A six-month extension has been granted to Technip for the completion of the project design, and work has been completed on the 'Prometheus' floating storage and regasification unit at a cost of less than one million euros. However, RAEK expresses doubts about the arrival of natural gas in Cyprus before 2030. During the session of the Parliamentary Energy Committee, MP Kyriakos Chatzigiannis requested an investigation by the Auditor General regarding potential irregularities in contracts with the project's consultants, while the Auditor General clarified that the audit concerns the organization and not the consultants. Additionally, it was reported that a foreign expert was involved in DEFA's bid preparation team.
