Livestock Farmers Protest New Measures Against Foot-and-Mouth Disease

Livestock farmers in the Timi and Anarita areas of Paphos are strongly protesting the new measures implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture to protect against foot-and-mouth disease. The decision to limit the opening of passages (05:00-07:00) creates problems in the operation of livestock units, especially during the calving season, which requires continuous presence of the owners. Farmers believe that the measures do not take into account the needs of the profession and are requesting free access to farms at any time. Furthermore, they express frustration with the lack of flexibility from the Department of Agriculture and emphasize that they are the first to take protective measures. They propose that policing be limited to nighttime hours and that farm owners not be checked.
