Cyprus on High Alert as Tensions Rise in the Middle East

Cyprus is on high alert due to escalating tensions in the Middle East. The United Kingdom and France are sending military aid to the island, including destroyers, helicopters, and aircraft capable of countering drones. Italy is also considering sending a frigate to the region. Greece has already sent two pairs of fighter jets and frigates to Cyprus, demonstrating solidarity and support. The F-16s conducted reconnaissance missions in the airspace near Lebanon, intercepting a suspicious object. The airspace of Cyprus has not been closed, but instructions were given to two flights to remain on standby for a short period. An Aegean flight to Larnaca returned to Athens due to an air exercise but is expected to be carried out later in the day. The National Security Council has been convened urgently in Cyprus, and staff at the US embassy have been moved to basements as a precaution. Security measures have been increased at schools, shopping malls, and hotels.
