Lillikas Remembers Vassiliou: “He Accepted Me with Long Hair and a Beard at the Presidential Palace”

Following the death of former President of the Republic of Cyprus, Giorgos Vassiliou, Giorgos Lillikas shared personal memories and highlighted the important qualities of the deceased. Mr. Lillikas recalled their first meeting in 1987, where Vassiliou welcomed him with open arms despite his distinctive appearance. He emphasized Vassiliou's work ethic, preparation, and ability to listen and change his mind when persuaded by arguments. He also pointed out Vassiliou's contribution to expanding democracy, depoliticizing state organizations, founding the University of Cyprus, and Cyprus's accession to the European Union.
