Life Battle for 25-Year-Old Andreas: Family's Plea for Treatment Abroad Denied

Andreas Xenios Charalambous, 25, is fighting for his life after a serious traffic accident in Larnaca in November 2024, which caused severe traumatic brain injury. He has undergone a long hospitalization, including ICU and the placement of a valve in his brain, and is showing gradual improvement, but remains blind and suffers from left-sided paralysis, as well as neurological difficulties such as anomia and post-traumatic stress. His parents, believing that rehabilitation at a specialized center abroad could significantly improve his condition, have submitted three applications for financial support to the Ministry of Health, which have been rejected. The rejection was based on the view that the necessary rehabilitation can be offered in Cyprus and that the effectiveness of treatment abroad is not adequately demonstrated, while the treating doctors do not consent to the transfer. The family is appealing for the approval of Andreas's transfer to a specialized center abroad, hoping for a substantial improvement in his health.
