Letymbiotis Explains What Constitutes an 'Incident' When Sirens Sound in British Bases – Economic Impact Assessments Made

Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis briefed the media on the situation at the British Bases, following reports of a suspicious object. He clarified that the object was not heading towards the Republic of Cyprus or the Bases and the alarm has been lifted. All security measures were activated by the British Bases Administration, while the Cypriot side assessed every piece of information and informed the residents of the Bases about the end of the alarm. Mr. Letymbiotis stated that the final direction of the object was in a wider area and that the government is closely monitoring all developments. He emphasized that the activation of security protocols is part of the preventive measures taken. Regarding the definition of an 'incident,' he explained that this occurs when there is an object with a confirmed direction towards the British Bases or elsewhere. He stressed the importance of assessing every piece of information and implementing security protocols in cooperation with partners. When there is no incident, this means that there is no object heading towards the Bases. Regarding the possibility of interception of objects by other countries, the Spokesman replied that interception constitutes an incident and information is provided immediately and transparently. The briefing took place after two successive cases of alarm activation in the British Bases, due to reports of suspicious objects. In both cases, after investigation, it was found that there was no immediate threat to Cyprus.
