Law Proposal for State Land Utilization to be Presented at Plenary Session

The Parliamentary Committee on Interior discussed a bill proposed by AKEL MP Christos Christofides regarding the utilization of state land. The proposal provides for an auction for commercial purposes and a reverse auction for renewable energy purposes, aiming to sell electricity at the lowest price for the Cypriot citizen. Mr. Christofides stated that the government has committed to regulating the issue but has not promoted regulations. The bill will be brought to the Plenary Session of the Parliament on April 2, where MPs will be asked to comment on transparency, meritocracy, and accountability in the utilization of state land. Mr. Christofides accused the government of inaction and argued that the bill is necessary to prevent procedures that may be linked to collusion and opacity. The bill aims to enhance transparency and efficiency in the utilization of state land for the benefit of the public.
