A tragic case is shaking Larnaca, with the death of a 78-year-old man and the illness of four other people, including one who is hospitalized and intubated in the intensive care unit. The case began when the 78-year-old and his wife fell ill, with the man dying a few hours later. Three more people, who visited the couple's home to express their condolences, also showed symptoms of illness. Authorities are investigating the possibility of a toxic substance in the water consumed by the victims, as everyone had drunk from a water cooler at the 78-year-old's home. Samples have been taken and sent to the state chemistry for analysis, with results expected soon. As part of the investigation, the YKAN (Drug Squad) arrested the 78-year-old's son, as drugs, including methamphetamine, ecstasy, and cannabis, were found in his home. The son's arrest appears to be linked to the case, as authorities are investigating a possible connection between the drugs and the illness of the victims. The case remains open and investigations are continuing at an intensive pace, in order to determine the exact cause of the 78-year-old's death and the illness of the other people. The Police are awaiting the results of laboratory tests to proceed with further actions and clarify all aspects of the case.
