Larnaca Hostage Situation: 36-Year-Old in Custody - 42-Year-Old in Hospital

A 36-year-old man has been remanded in custody for eight days, following a police request, to investigate the case of the hostage situation involving two women in Larnaca. The man had entered the women's apartment and threatened them with a knife, restricting their movements. Police, implementing a special protocol, managed to release the women, a 34-year-old and a 42-year-old, without serious injuries. The operation to release the women was carried out with coordinated action from various police departments, including the Larnaca Police Directorate and the Special Measures Unit (MMA). Police were informed of the incident by a citizen who contacted the Control and Operations Center (KEM) of the Larnaca Police Directorate. The 42-year-old was taken to Larnaca General Hospital with a laceration on her hand, where she received medical treatment and was discharged. The 34-year-old also underwent medical examinations. The 36-year-old surrendered to police negotiators and was taken into custody. The case is being investigated by the Larnaca TAE. The incident highlighted the effectiveness of police protocols for dealing with such situations, as well as the importance of a prompt response to reports of violence.
