Lagarde: "I am the crisis lady" – Warning of a more unstable world

The President of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde, warns of a period of increased instability in the global economy, characterized by more frequent shocks and intense geopolitical fragmentation. She considers it crucial whether Europe will be able to adapt quickly to the new conditions. Despite her cautiously optimistic outlook for inflation stabilization and resilient economic growth, Lagarde points out that the rise of populism, social inequalities, and slow decision-making are obstacles to Europe's ability to shape its own future. The return of Donald Trump to the White House creates a new dynamic in international politics. Lagarde stressed the need for deeper reforms, faster decisions, and greater unity within the European Union. She emphasizes that the independence of the ECB is institutionally enshrined, unlike in other countries where the central bank faces pressure. Lagarde, who refers to herself as the "crisis lady", acknowledges that her career has been marked by successive economic and geopolitical crises. At the same time, she rules out a return to French politics, stating that she will remain in her position at the ECB until the end of her term in 2027.
