Kyiv accuses Russia of drone attacks on two cargo ships

Kyiv has accused Russia of launching drone attacks on two cargo ships in the Black Sea, one flying the Panamanian flag and one the flag of San Marino. A sailor was injured during one of the attacks and is receiving medical care. Moscow has carried out similar attacks in recent months, targeting port infrastructure in southern Ukraine, in retaliation for Ukrainian attacks on Russian tankers in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean. According to Oleksiy Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, the ships were due to load vegetable oils and corn respectively. Turkey, which maintains good relations with both countries, has expressed concern over the escalating tensions and is proposing a ceasefire to ensure freedom of navigation. Ukraine had previously claimed responsibility for attacks on Russian oil tankers, while Russia had also attacked Turkish ships in the Black Sea in December.
