Koumis: Encouraging Messages for Tourism in 2026

The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Kostas Koumis, presented the annual report of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, stating that 2025 was the best year in the history of Cypriot tourism. Tourist arrivals exceeded 4.5 million, an increase of 12.2% compared to the previous year and 41.6% over three years. Tourism revenue increased by 15.3% compared to 2024 and by 51.1% over three years, while the average per capita expenditure amounted to €822, an increase of 2.9% year-on-year and 6.2% over three years. Despite a slight decrease in the average length of stay (from 8.6 to 8.27 days), there was an increase in overnight stays, which are expected to reach 18.5 million in 2025, up from 17.9 million in 2024. Mr. Koumis emphasized that tourism has confirmed its leading role in the Cypriot economy, contributing 14% to GDP, compared to 13.1% the previous year. In total, tourism revenue for the three-year period 2023-2025 amounted to €9.9 billion, a historic record. According to the Deputy Minister, the government has succeeded in returning tourism to high levels and maintaining it there. The government's first priority was the recovery and maintenance of high performance in the tourism sector, which has been achieved. In addition, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism operates a total of 16 incentive schemes, four of which come from the EU's Recovery and Resilience Plan. Mr. Koumis stated that the initial messages for tourism in 2026 are encouraging, suggesting that the positive trend of tourism in Cyprus will continue.
