The Minister of Justice, Konstantinos Fytiris, announced that two members of the Police will be brought before justice following investigations into incidents of assault and battery. The cases concern a police sergeant in Larnaca and a special police officer in Paphos, with the incidents allegedly occurring off-duty. The Minister of Justice stressed that the cases are being investigated with due seriousness and the state is determined to strengthen discipline, accountability and the operational efficiency of the Police. The cleansing of the Police is progressing in parallel with its effectiveness against crime, aiming to strengthen public trust. The announcement of the Ministry of Justice emphasizes that behaviors that do not align with the principles and mission of the Force will not be tolerated and will be dealt with within the framework of legality. At the same time, the Minister congratulates the members of the Police who have achieved substantial blows against illegality. Mr. Fytiris stressed that consistency in the application of legality and strengthening the effectiveness of the Police are key priorities, with the aim of further strengthening public trust. The vast majority of police officers perform their duties daily with professionalism, responsibility and a sense of duty.
