Japan: Restart of World’s Largest Nuclear Plant Suspended

The restart of the world’s largest nuclear plant, Kashiwazaki-Kariwa in Japan, has been suspended just hours after the process began, due to an alarm in the monitoring system. The operating company, Tokyo Electric (TEPCO), assured that the reactor is “stable” and there is no radiation leak. The restart had been previously delayed due to technical issues. The plant had stopped operating after the Fukushima disaster in 2011, and its restart is controversial, with 60% of residents in Niigata Prefecture opposing it.
