Japan Reaffirms Support for the Resolution of the Cyprus Issue

The Ambassador of Japan to Cyprus, Satoshi Iwasaki, assured that the Government of Japan will continue to contribute to achieving a peaceful and sustainable solution to the Cyprus issue, based on the decisions of the United Nations. He gave this assurance during an event in Nicosia for the 66th birthday of Emperor Naruhito. The Ambassador emphasized in his speech that Japan will stand by Cyprus in its efforts to achieve peace and stability. The Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafeades, who was the guest of honor at the event, expressed the gratitude of the government for Japan's position on the Cyprus issue and its support for efforts to reach a comprehensive solution, in accordance with the decisions of the UN Security Council. He also highlighted the importance of cooperation between the European Union and Japan, which is a pillar of stability. Minister Vafeades stated that Cyprus, during its Presidency of the Council of the EU, will continue to strengthen the strategic relationship with Japan, promoting coordination and initiatives of common interest. He stressed that cooperation between the two countries will continue to deepen in the coming years, based on mutual respect, convergence of interests, and commitment to peace and international law. The friendship between Cyprus and Japan is characterized by a reliable, productive, and progressive relationship, with the development of cooperation in areas such as innovation, education, maritime affairs, and culture. Exchanges between societies and younger generations play an important role in maintaining this positive momentum.
