Israel Announces Targeting of Jihad's Top Commander

The Israeli army announced that it carried out an airstrike in Iran targeting Akram al-Ajouri, one of the top leaders of Palestinian Islamic Jihad and head of its military wing. Al-Ajouri has reportedly been residing in Iran for the past few years. Islamic Jihad, a close ally of Hamas, operates in Gaza and the occupied West Bank and participated in the October 7, 2023 attack. The targeting of Al-Ajouri comes during a period of increased tension in the region, with Israel expanding its operations and Iran denouncing a violation of its sovereignty. Al-Ajouri's fate remains uncertain.
