Israel Says 'No' to Direct Negotiations with Lebanon

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar confirmed that there are no plans for direct negotiations with Lebanon to end the war that began on March 2, following a Hezbollah attack against Israel. This statement contrasts with Lebanese sources that said negotiations were “on the agenda” and that preparations for the formation of a delegation were underway. The Lebanese sources stressed that an “Israeli commitment to a ceasefire or cessation of hostilities” is required – a commitment that Israel is currently refusing to provide.
