Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has described US President Donald Trump's threat to intervene in Iran if protesters are killed as “reckless and dangerous.” Araghchi accused Trump of being influenced by fears of diplomacy and underestimating its value. He also warned against the unacceptable destruction of public property during the protests. The Iranian police spokesperson, Saeed Montazeralmahdi, stated that the police understand the economic demands of the protesters, but will not tolerate chaos. He emphasized that law enforcement will separate legitimate claims from acts of vandalism and will not allow the escalation of violence. The criticism from Iran comes in response to Trump's threat that the US would “save” the protesters if authorities fired upon them. Trump had warned that the US would intervene if protesters were killed, repeating a tactic he has used in the past. The protests in Iran have erupted in recent days due to economic hardship and rising prices. Despite the fact that the protests are largely peaceful, there have been incidents of vandalism and clashes with security forces, raising concerns about the potential for escalating violence.
