Iran: Macron, Starmer and Scholz Condemn "Killing of Protesters"

The leaders of France, the United Kingdom, and Germany, Emmanuel Macron, Keir Starmer, and Friedrich Merz, jointly condemned the violence and killing of protesters in Iran. They expressed deep concern over reports of the crackdown on demonstrations by Iranian security forces and called on the authorities to exercise restraint, respect fundamental rights of citizens, and guarantee freedom of expression and peaceful assembly. The joint statement comes amid a period of intense protests challenging the rule of the Islamic Republic, which has governed Iran since 1979. Simultaneously, Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, warned that the country will not yield to the demonstrations. According to the NGO Iran Human Rights, at least 51 protesters, including nine children, have been killed and hundreds injured since the start of the protests on December 28th.
