Iran: Agreement with US 'Within Reach' - Statement on Nuclear Weapons

Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, stated that an agreement with the United States to prevent conflict is “within reach,” ahead of indirect talks set to take place in Geneva. Araghchi emphasized that the success of the agreement depends on prioritizing diplomacy, indirectly responding to US President Donald Trump's threats of military action. Iran reaffirmed that it will never develop a nuclear weapon, but maintained its right to benefit from peaceful nuclear technology. This statement comes in response to Trump's accusations that Iran is developing missiles capable of reaching the US. Trump, in his State of the Union address, reiterated his preference for a diplomatic solution, but warned that he will not allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon. He argued that Iran is seeking to rebuild its nuclear program, despite a previous US attack on Iranian nuclear facilities. The Geneva negotiations, mediated by Oman, represent the third round of talks between Washington and Tehran. Trump has set a 10-15 day timeframe for Iran to reach a “substantial agreement,” threatening military intervention in case of failure.
