Ioannou at the Aristoi Awards: “KOA Supports Cypriot Sports with Actions”

The top athletes and teams of 2025 were honored at the 53rd Aristoi Awards of the Cyprus Sports Journalists Association (CSJA), held at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre. Pavlos Kontides, Elena Koulitsenko, Paphos FC, and Olympiada Neapoleos were among those awarded. The President of the Cyprus Sports Organisation (KOA), Yiannis Ioannou, presented the Aristos Award to the Cyprus Basketball Federation and the Organising Committee of Eurobasket 2025, recognizing the successful hosting of the tournament. KOA Vice-President Kalli Chatziiosif presented the “Woman and Sports – Marianna Zachariadi” award to Elena Vasiliou, for her contribution to women’s basketball. Mr. Ioannou emphasized KOA’s support for sports, mentioning the recent event for rewarding athletes and coaches, where €920,000 was allocated for international achievements. He also announced an increase in subsidies to sports federations and disability sports for 2026, as well as the completion of significant projects to upgrade sports facilities. KOA also plans to organize three sports conferences during the Cypriot Presidency, aiming to promote sports and sports tourism. The success of Eurobasket 2025 was highlighted as an example of Cyprus’s ability to host major sporting events.
