Investigation Ordered into Departure of Defendant While Awaiting Trial

The Minister of Justice, Kostas Fytiris, has ordered an investigation into the departure of a 32-year-old defendant from Cyprus, who is accused of attempted murder and had an ongoing criminal procedure against him. The investigation will examine the actions of the Central Prisons in handling the case, as well as the actions of the Police, with the appointment of an investigating officer. The Minister requested the immediate communication of the investigation findings. The incident concerns an attempted murder committed in Larnaca in November, where the defendant stabbed his employer. Despite a scheduled first appearance in criminal court and temporary psychiatric hospitalization, the defendant managed to leave the country under unclear circumstances.
