“Invalid” Abbot’s Monks’ Mysteries: Archbishop Firm but Cannot Stop Them – “Radar” Open for Karpasia

Archbishop Georgios announced that the issue of the monks of the Holy Monastery of Abbakum, who continue to perform religious mysteries despite instructions, will be discussed at the next Holy Synod on January 8th. However, he emphasized that the Church does not have the power to stop them directly, but will inform the faithful that the mysteries they perform are invalid. Furthermore, proposals for changes to the Constitution of the Church of Cyprus, including the method of electing hierarchs, are expected to be discussed at the same Synod. This discussion follows criticism of the election process and the need for greater transparency and accountability. Regarding the Bishop of Karpasia Christoforos, the Archbishop stated that he has not received any complaints so far. However, he assured that the Holy Synod will examine the matter if any complaint is submitted, emphasizing the Church's commitment to transparency and legality. The announcement regarding the monks of Abbakum comes at a time of intense discussion regarding the autonomy of monasteries and their relationship with the Church. The Church appears to be seeking a balance between preserving tradition and the need for compliance with its decisions.
