The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, expressed his satisfaction with the holding of the first EU-Jordan Summit in Amman. He emphasized that Cyprus, during its Presidency of the Council of the EU, will strengthen the EU's relations with the countries of the Middle East, utilizing its geographical position, political credibility, and knowledge of the region. President Christodoulides stated that the simultaneous presence of the EU leadership and leaders of countries in the region at the opening of the Cypriot Presidency demonstrates Cyprus's role as a point of reference and dialogue. The EU-Jordan Summit is a continuation of the EU-Egypt Summit held in Brussels last October. Furthermore, President Christodoulides referred to the first joint visit of the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission to Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon, and pledged that the EU will promote specific actions at the Informal European Council in Cyprus in April. Cyprus, according to the President, will continue to play an active role in promoting European cooperation in the region, utilizing its institutional position and political credibility, with the aim of stability, security, and progress.
