Increase in Seasonal Infections at Makarios Hospital Pediatric Clinic – 1 Child Hospitalized with RSV

The Pediatric Clinic of Makarios Hospital is experiencing an increase in cases of seasonal infections, such as influenza and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). Clinic Director Dr. Elena Papamichael states that the clinic is not overcrowded, but a further increase is possible in the coming days due to seasonality. Currently, one child is hospitalized with RSV, and four others are recovering from influenza and other conditions. No coronavirus cases have been recorded in recent days. Dr. Papamichael notes that the number of cases is at similar levels to last year, but there is a possibility of an increase. The hospital is fully prepared, with Intensive Care Units ready to manage severe cases. In the event of a large influx of patients, there is cooperation with other hospitals of the OKYPY. The occupancy rate of the ICU at Makarios is around two-thirds. Dr. Papamichael advises parents to follow the instructions of pediatricians and ensure that vulnerable children are vaccinated against influenza, while emphasizing the importance of personal hygiene and avoiding crowding.
