Inauguration of the First Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art by the Cypriot Presidency on January 29th

The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Cyprus will inaugurate its first exhibition, “Agropoietics: soils/ bodies”, on January 29th, 2026, organized by the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU and the Deputy Ministry of Culture. The exhibition aims to promote dialogue, values, and common European references through art. It features works by over fifty Cypriot artists, both historical and contemporary, exploring the relationship between landscape, nature, land, and history, with a focus on the Cypriot context. The exhibition draws inspiration from the essay by Portuguese artist Filipa César and promotes a critical and responsible attitude towards nature and place. Curated by Dr. Elena Parpa, it is accompanied by a special edition with texts from writers, poets, and humanities scholars. Alongside the exhibition, various events will take place, including guided tours, artist presentations, film screenings (Only Terrestrial), and a symposium titled Oiko-nomia, in collaboration with the Celadon Center for Arts & Ecologies. The program also includes educational programs for primary and secondary school students. The operation of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art is considered a strategic investment for Cyprus, as it strengthens the intellectual cultivation of society and promotes the modern artistic creation of the island.
